 It
is easy for anyone to get a degree. It does not matter how much or
how little schooling you have, just so long as you can pay the price
for a certificate. In the USA, schools that can award degrees must
be recognized by the US Secretary of Education. Other Western countries
have similar government departments that authorize schools as able
to award degrees if they meet a certain set of standards. These standards
are similar in most of the developed world. However, there are many
non-accredited "schools" in the USA, UK and beyond. "Degrees"
from these non-accredited schools are rarely worth the paper they
are printed on.
Sellers of quack products and information may also form their own
"professional" organizations. In some cases, the only
membership requirement is payment of a fee. Do not assume that all
groups with scientific-sounding names are respectable.
